Chasing Waterfalls

Located in the northern most tip of Argentina, Iguazú Falls is uniquely surrounded by 4 countries - Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay and of course Argentina. This natural wonder literally has hundreds of waterfalls (in less than a 2 mile distance) and was recently chosen as one of the 'new' 7 natural wonders of the world.  The surrounding tropical forest and humid climate makes Iguazu a completely unique experience to the rest of Argentina.

A Food Lover's Paradise

The Estancia is a true family stay which means that everything is included in your daily rate - from the lodging to the activities to the amazing meals and drinks you are offered.  I generally do not like 'all-inclusive' types of experiences so my expectation for the food was not high.  But the Beggs, being well traveled themselves, understand how important good food is to discerning visitors.  Los Potreros has a professionally trained chef and assistant who whip up some of the dreamiest things you can imagine.

Warning: Unless you have really strong willpower, you will gain weight during your stay here BUT isn't that what vacations are for?

Here is just a small taste of what I experienced...

For those of you that read my Destination: Argentina Post, you will recall that spending time at an authentic Argentinian ranch (estancia) was a really important wish list item for me when planning my trip.  I fortunately stumbled upon Estancia Los Portreros which far exceeded any expectation that I could of had for staying on a ranch in South America. Warning: the pictures do not do it justice!

Gaucho Style

Gauchos are the traditional cowboys of South America and can be found in Argentina as well as Uruguay & Brazil.  Their livelihood is based on taking care of cattle and horses and traditionally were a nomadic culture that went from ranch to ranch helping as needed.  They are a national symbol of Argentina, much like the US cowboys, and are known to be strong, honest, silent types, with expert horseman skills.

A City of Color

Buenos Aires is a city bursting with color, you will see the full range from soft pastels to vibrant jewel tones.  The beautifully painted frescoes throughout La Boca to the quaint little flower shops on each corner, reveal the love for color here.   This post is nothing but a shameless display of my favorite eye-candy moments...who doesn't love a little color therapy on a gray winter day?

The Beauty of Recoleta

1/17/2018

Buenos Aires is not well known for its tourist sites - no Christ the Redeemer towering over the city or a sparkling Eiffel Tower shining like diamonds in the distance.  Typically you will only hear about their steaks and tango, but believe me there is so much more.  I will be highlighting all my favorite finds on the Blog - from museums to parks to the many colorful neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.  I wanted to first begin with my favorite site of them all...Recoleta Cemetery, hailed as the one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world...it truly is!

The Art of Graffiti

I have always been a fan of street art and found Buenos Aires to have some of the most creative expressions of any city I have traveled to.  I stumbled across these masterpieces in every neighborhood - from San Telmo to Palermo and each discovery was more exciting than the previous.

In a city filled with gorgeous architecture and lush parks, the graffiti seemed to only enhance the beauty all around.  As the infamous quote by E.A. Bucchianeri reads...Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own interpretation.  For those of you looking for some instagood backdrops, I highly recommend you head to Buenos Aires, it will not disappoint!

I am a firm believer that where you stay during your vacation sets the tone for the trip.  A great place in the right neighborhood is equivalent to a dozen good meals in my book.  And as I always tell my clients, "If it ends up raining all day, you want to be staying somewhere that makes being indoors special."

Ultimate Argentina Packing Guide: Carry-On Only

1/4/2018

Many people (especially my family) think I am crazy that I insist on traveling only with a carry-on bag.  To be perfectly honest, I have no 'cons' to report, only a solid 'pros' list.  Let me point out the obvious (maybe not so obvious to you) benefits:
Picture
  1. You never have to worry if your bag will arrive at your destination - huge!  Though I have never had my bag lost, I am constantly paranoid that my luck will soon run out and I will be saying sayonara to my favorite pair of Greek sandals.
  2. Packing light means you are carrying light.  I find it especially convenient when I am going to multiple destinations and getting in and out of various cars and planes...so nice to have something easy to carry and lift.
  3. You are forced to be really mindful of your packing choices.  There is nothing worse than packing a bunch of 'options' and then not even using those clothes or shoes during your vacation.  It is far better to really think through everything you are packing as you literally have no room to waste.
